Phineas Gage's story is important to the study of the brain in psychology, because it provides evidence that some parts of the brain control behavior. Since a certain part of the brain was damaged by the railroad spike, his personality changed.

Before the accident, he was considered one of the most efficient foreman. After the accident, he began to display very childish behavior and his friends didn't trust him. The damage to his frontal cortex had caused complete loss of social inhibitions, which consequently led to unacceptable behavior. He would just saay whatever he was thinking.
